meet.make.granny ripple afghan.

The project that felt like it would never end has finally been completed! I decided months ago that I wanted to make an afghan for my brother-in-law and soon to be sister-in-law as a wedding gift, and it is finally done. I even had a couple weeks to spare. I'm really happy with the finished product, but I think I'm even more happy that I don't have to work on it anymore. ;) Time to move onto some quick gratifying projects!

I used this granny ripple pattern, which I came across on ravelry, and if you are interested it has great step by step picture tutorials. I used Phentex worsted weight yarn and a 6.0 mm (J) hook, and worked the pattern vertically instead of horizontally. (This may or may not have been because I cast on WAY too many stitches....)

Speaking of casting on - I didn't bother counting. WHAT you say? Well, once I figured it was big enough, I followed the pattern repeat as far as I could, and then I undid the rest of my chains using this method from the lovely Rachel at Maybe Matilda! Seriously, it is way easier then meticulously counting chains.

Congratulations Andrew and Julia! Your wedding was beautiful and I am so excited I finally get to call someone sister. :)

  4. Ooh I love! I also use the unpicking a chain method when starting new projects like this.

I think big afghans become a labour of love by the time you get to the end. They will love it I'm sure :-)
