meet.make.DIY scarf hangers.

'Tis the season for scarves - our favorite fall accessory!

Homemade or store bought, you'll likely never catch any of us without one. The dilemma - we each needed a better way to hang/store them. Piling them over a dining room chair, or storing them in a bin wasn't working anymore.

We were inspired from a scarf hanger we came across on the IKEA website. Since there isn't an IKEA nearby, we decided we were crafty enough to make our own. We had no clue where to start though! So we made our way to the Dollar Store to see what we could find. Not knowing what exactly to look for, we walked up and down the aisles in search for something that could be made into a loop and would easily attach to a hanger. We came across sets of headbands that clipped together to make a circle and decided they were good enough! We are proud and surprised to say that we bought everything from the Dollar Store!

Our shopping list:
  • Black velvety hangers
  • Headbands that clipped together (8 each)
  • Black electrical tape

Items from our craft bin (yes, we have one!):
  • Old t-shirts
  • Leftover fabric
  • Yarn
  • Glue gun
Each of us tackled the project independently, winging it as we went along.

Steps (we each started at different points):
  • Hot glue your fabric of choice to cover the hanger and headbands
  • Connect the headbands to the hanger and to each other using black electrical tape
  • Cover the tape with yarn or fabric
  • Embellish as desired

Make sure to have some drinks and snacks handy because this project takes longer than it seems. May we suggest some szechuan green beans and spiced blackberry mojitos?

Having no visual reference or guide to follow, we are quite happy with the end result!

We love how each time we tackle a project as a group they never end up looking the same...

We are all excited to get these home and put them to use!

  17. Wow, this post is from 2012? And I'm just seeing it? Love this idea and I am definitely going to make it. My scarves are currently folded and stored in a cute box. Some are thrown over a spring rod in my closet. I will like having them all in one place. I think the headbands are a great idea for the heavier weight scarves.
Now, off to Dollar Tree I go. 😉
