meet.make.scarf accents.

After coming across this post... I knew I had to add some coloured stripes to a plain scarf. I have always had a weak spot for stripes!

I started by knitting a thick white cowl out of Lion Brand's Wool-Ease Thick and Quick in the colour Fisherman. I didn't keep track of how many I cast on, I just made sure it was an odd number as I wanted the bulk of the pattern to be done in moss stitch.

After the cowl was complete, I raided my yarn stash for some stripe colours. I wanted something bright to really contrast the off-white.

Using the knit pattern as a guide to keep my stripes straight, I used an embroider chain stitch to add my stripes with a tapestry needle. Never done a chain stitch before? This tutorial from the purl bee is really clear.

I am loving the stripes, and think I will wear this a ton. In fact, I wore it the first day after completion out for coffee with the ladies.

One thing I didn't really anticipate about my colour choices... I have had 3 people ask me if it is a Hudson Bay scarf. I totally didn't have that in mind, but it is pretty close to their colour palette!

While we were out snapping photos of the scarf I was able to capture this one of the lovely Hayley and Cindy, and it was too cute to not share. :) Aren't they adorable?

What type of accents and embellishments have you added to knitwear?

  8. Beautiful! So what exactly is the moss stitch? I've looked around and people have different definitions for it, since it seems like it is originally a knitting term. sc, ch, sk a stitch, sc, and then in the next row, you sc in the ch sp? Love the look of it!
